About the Collection

The Appalachian Preaching Mission Records, housed at the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University, tell the story of the Appalachian Preaching Mission from 1955 to 1980. The collection contains  7 boxes of various documents related to the mission, such as financial statements, correspondence, brochures, and promotional materials. There is also one silent film and several images in the collection.

Probably most impressive are the 332 audiotapes in the collection. These tapes contain audio of music, sermons, and announcements from the Appalachian Preaching Mission between 1958 and 1977. Earlier tapes are on reel to reel and later ones are on cassette.

Materials in the collection are primarily related to the Johnson City Mission. All audio on this site was recorded from the Johnson City Mission.

The materials contained on this site are only a small sample of this vast and diverse collection. I tried to select a range of materials that give a good representation of the collection, including a brochure from every year of the mission.
